Mission Statement

Healing Mountain Massage School's goal is to provide the best quality
education in massage and the healing arts in a warm personalized environment,
and to facilitate each student's growth via their integration of body, mind, & spirit.

Our Philosophy

Healing Mountain is a place to learn, to grow, to obtain professional skills.
It may also be a place to begin a change in life's direction. But it is ALOT more ...
After all, you can get an education at any massage school. Our philosophy
exemplifies the "Way of the Compassionate Spirit". And, as a result,
students feel drawn to our warmth, our sincerity, and the nurturing attention we provide. You are the main focus of our program. Our approach is humanistic and supportive. Students are allowed to be sensitive and creative. Each person is a
valued part of the whole. Classes are small, where each student is an integral and necessary member. A profound educational experience is available for each student because the environment and programs at HMMS create space for individuality.

School History and Ownership

In 1996 a group of massage instructors from other area schools met with the
idea of "What I would want in a massage school if I were a student." Each
instructor took turns to voice their common dreams & visions. What came out
of our brainstorming session was a list of unique traits & philosophies outlined
above -- A school that is open & friendly; better, more personalized education
with only 10 students in a program; mentorships with seasoned professionals;
the most thorough spa education/training in the intermountain west; the most
diverse & unique curriculum in Utah; and on-the-job-training, learning every
aspect of the profession in a real massage clinic & day spa.

So, in 1997, our director, RJ Nikola, created this unique educational/
experiential offering for the Utah community. Our first class graduated in 1998.
We enhanced our/ curriculum from a 630 hour program to a 720 hour program, adding five new bodywork classes and five additional health science & ethics
classes between 1998-2000. We also expanded from a morning only program in
1997 to four programs annually encompassing mornings, evenings, and weekends
in 1998. We received accreditation, and began offering quarter credit courses in
2001. Our facility grew in 2004 from 2200 sq. ft. to over 6200 sq. ft. And, frinally in 2007 we opened the doors to our non-main branch campus in Cedar City.
